Poor Charles Ng is in need of penpals
I always feel a special kinship in my struggle for survival as those faced by the endangered animals I depict in my artwork. To me, art is a universal emotional expression of all cultures, and wildlife art a spiritual reference for all things wild and free; and a way for me to immortalize my love and intimacy to
those who are dear and special to me.
Read his entire appeal here
While I understand that many people fudge a bit about themselves in these types of situations, Charles Ng has left out some pretty pertinent information. Like that he and his buddy kidnapped, raped, tortured, and murdered women. That there are videotapes featuring him engaging in these acts. That there are many men, women, and even babies who will never have the chance to seek out pen pals because he had a part in ending their lives. He evidently didn't feel any kinship in their struggle to survive.
I am not a proponent of the death penalty. It's applied arbitrarily, innocent people get caught up, and have most likely been executed, and endless appeals cost millions of dollars. I understand and share the feelings of those who fight for the end of the death penalty, but to give a forum to psychopaths for the purpose of them making "friends" disturbs me. Particularly in his case where there can be no doubt as to his guilt.
Diane Downs Up For Parole
On June 14, 1984, Elizabeth Diane Downs was convicted of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder in the first degree. Convicted of the premeditated shooting of her three children.
The shootings occured in the late evening of May 19, 1983 on a desolate backroad in Oregon. Diane Downs claimed that a bushy haired man had been in the road and she had stopped to see if he needed help. According to Downs, he demanded the car and, when she refused, shot her children.
(Investigators doubted Diane's story and found convincing circumstantial evidence that she had shot her children. Including testimony that she owned a gun that she had denied owning that fired the same type of bullets that had been used to shoot the children.)
Downs drove the children to the hospital at what a witness estimated was the speed of about five to seven miles an hour. Her seven year old daughter Cheryl was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Her other two children, eight year old Christie Downs - who would later identify her mother as the shooter in court- survived along with her three year old brother Danny.
Diane Downs will be up for parole in December 2008.

Raymond Guay, convicted of the 1973 murder of twelve year old John Lindovski, has been realeased from prison. New Hampshire authorities tried to keep him out of the state, but it has been ruled that he must be allowed to stay. His history suggests that parents should keep an eye on their children if they live anywhere near this man.
