DNA evidence Leads to Second Death Sentence for Tim Hennis

Kathryn (Katie) Eastburn, and her two daughters, Kara and Erin, were brutally murdered near Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC on May,9 1985. Her third child, Jana, was left unharmed, but in danger of dehydration, in her crib.

Could a man who spent the weekend of the murders building a dollhouse for his own daughter be responsible for slashing a mother and two small children to death? The answer, according to the Army, is a resounding yes. Tim Hennis was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to death in a court-martial proceeding in April of 2010.

Hennis went through two civilian trials in the Eighties. The first one ended in a guilty verdict and a death sentence. Several years later, Hennis won a new trial in which he was found not guilty. The only evidence against Hennis in these trials was questionable eye witness testimony.

Fast forward about twenty years. DNA technology had burst on the scene. When the original material from the rape kit taken from Katie Eastburn was sent for testing. The DNA pointed to Tim Hennis. The Army brought him out of retirement to charge him, once again, of the three murders. The military has a separate justice system and can try it's members independent of the civilian justice system, therefore double jeopardy does not attach.

Clayton Ellington gets Death for murdering wife, twin sons

On May 17, 2006, Police were called to a DeKalb County home and found 31 year old Berna Ellington and her two year old twins who had been beaten to death with the claw end of a hammer.

Clayton Ellinton first told authorities that he had come home and found the three bodies. He later

changed his story and said that he had killed his wife after she killed the children.

A Jury didn't believe his story. He has been convicted of murder and sentenced to death. At his sentencing, he was assaulted by his murdered wife's cousin in the courtroom.

Alvin Kelly, 57, executed in Texas

"As I stand before God today, the true judge, I had nothing to do with the death of your family."

these were some of Kelly's last words before dying by lethal injection. He asked for forgiveness for the murder he admits he committed and sang a song praising God as the death cocktail began to course through his veins.

He was convicted of the 1984 death of 22 month old Devin Morgan who was shot along with his parents in their Gregg county home.

The man who claimed he was too fat to be put to death has had his death sentence carried out. He was convicted in 1986 of kidnapping, raping, and murdering two women, Wendy Offredo and Dawn McCreedy.

Alvin Kelly to be executed Tuesday in Texas

Kelly is one of 12 prisoners on Texas' death row scheduled to die in the next two months. He was convicted of the 1984 murder of, 22-month old, Devin Morgan who was murdered along with his parents in  Gregg County. Kelly admitted guilt in an unrelated homicide, but maintains his innocence of the murders of the Morgan Family.

Marsha Spicer was raped and murdered while being videotaped in 2006. Davis has been convicted and sentenced to death in her case.

Davis and his girlfriend, Dena Riley, are also charged with another videotaped murder in the death of Michelle Huff-Ricci.

Joseph E. Duncan was sentenced to death by a federal jury on August 27, 2008 for the kidnapping, of Dylan and Shasta Groene and the Murder of Dylan. Shasta and Dylan were taken after Duncan bound and bludgeoned their mother, her boyfriend, and their older brother, Slade to death. Joseph Duncan pled guilty to the federal charges. During the hearings to determine his sentence, the jury was shown letters the children had written to their father during their captivity, and a series of shocking and graphic videos documenting a sexual assault on Dylan, and Duncan hanging Dylan almost to the point of death.

Sometime after these videos were made, while Shasta watched, Dylan was shot once in the stomach, then in the head.

What these children endured is one of the worst cases I’ve ever heard. While doing some research on the case I ran across Duncan’s blog. It is a disturbing glimpse inside the mind of a pedophile and serial killer.

California authorities are preparing to try Duncan for the abduction and murder in the death of Anthony Michael Martinez. Martinez was abducted on 4/4/1997. A fingerprint from the case has been linked to Duncan.
